Best Places to Visit Near Bommasandra and Jigani, Bangalore: A Local Travel Guide

There is a different side to Bengaluru once you move away from the familiar city-centre landmarks.

South Bengaluru gradually changes from busy roads and commercial districts into a mix of residential neighbourhoods, industrial corridors, lakes, open landscapes and patches of greenery. Around Bommasandra, Jigani and Yarandahalli, this change is particularly noticeable.

If you’re staying in this part of the city, you don’t necessarily need to travel into central Bengaluru every day to find something interesting to do. A wildlife park, a quiet lake, a morning drive or even a leisurely day exploring the southern side of the city can make for a surprisingly enjoyable outing.

So, if you’re spending a little time around the Bommasandra–Jigani Link Road, here are a few places and experiences worth putting on your list.

Start with the wild side of Bengaluru

Bannerghatta Biological Park

If there’s one destination that immediately comes to mind when talking about this part of Bengaluru, it’s Bannerghatta Biological Park.

The park offers something quite different from the typical city experience. Instead of buildings, traffic and shopping streets, you get wildlife, trees and open surroundings.

The biological park includes a zoo, safari, butterfly park and rescue centre, making it particularly popular with families. The safari is often the highlight for first-time visitors. The park’s official website currently lists the zoo, safari and butterfly park among its main visitor experiences.

You can easily spend several hours here, so there’s no real need to rush through it. Start early, explore the park at a comfortable pace and leave yourself some time for the journey back.

For someone visiting Bengaluru for the first time, it is also an interesting reminder that a major wildlife experience exists surprisingly close to a metropolitan city.

Take a quieter route around Bannerghatta

Bannerghatta’s green landscape

Not every outing needs a timetable.

The landscape around Bannerghatta has a much quieter character than many parts of Bengaluru. The combination of rocky terrain, vegetation and forested areas gives the southern edge of the city a distinctly different feel.

The wider Bannerghatta National Park covers a large forested area and is known for its wildlife and safari experiences. Karnataka Tourism describes the region as spanning 260.51 sq km and highlights its lion and tiger safari, zoo, butterfly park and nature camp.

If you’re someone who enjoys photography, an early-morning drive or simply getting away from crowded streets for a while, exploring the Bannerghatta side of the city can be more rewarding than trying to squeeze another shopping mall or busy attraction into your itinerary.

The best part is that you can take your time.

Sometimes the drive itself becomes part of the experience.

Find a little peace by the water

Kyalasanahalli Lake

https://images.openai.com/static-rsc-4/YA6Uy0of-winjE9KZZsjOpWovXAlcjF__2oreP8XrL0CXd7-zO7oQ-9_V-lESL20twf6XCIzjtWOPELr2Nx_5qjxZDXRlX4TBiLaqeH2IwgUSV3D5MujrZtkUfQjD2Og7dzJ8I761KJtg4mRllgceYwwbQA3q5nlGM26zyrwK16RTAtik3xNL80R8CZVbG40?purpose=fullsize

The areas around Jigani and Anekal have several lakes and water bodies that are easy to overlook.

Kyalasanahalli Lake, in the Jigani area, is one such local spot.

It isn’t the kind of destination where you need to plan an elaborate itinerary. That’s precisely the attraction.

For travellers who have already spent a busy day travelling or working, a quiet outdoor location can be a welcome change. Early mornings can be particularly pleasant, although visitors should always check local access and conditions before heading out.

If you enjoy taking photographs, watching birds or simply sitting somewhere away from the city’s noise, keep the smaller local destinations in mind.

Discover the quieter corners of Bommasandra

Kithiganahalli Lake

Bommasandra is better known for its industrial and commercial activity than for tourism.

But that doesn’t mean there is nothing interesting around it.

Kithiganahalli Lake is one of the smaller natural spots around the Bommasandra area. Places like this offer a different perspective of South Bengaluru and can work well for a short, unhurried outing.

If your idea of exploring a city involves finding places that aren’t necessarily on every tourist’s checklist, local lakes and neighbourhoods can be worth discovering.

Again, I’d use a real Kithiganahalli Lake photograph if we can find a suitable licensed image rather than using a generic lake photograph.

Spend some time in Electronic City

When work and travel come together

Not every visitor to South Bengaluru is here on holiday.

Bommasandra, Jigani and the surrounding areas have a strong industrial and business presence, while Electronic City is one of Bengaluru’s major technology and employment hubs.

For business travellers, this can actually be an advantage.

Instead of staying in the middle of the city and spending a large part of the day travelling across Bengaluru, staying closer to the southern business districts can make the trip considerably more practical.

And when the day’s meetings are over, you’re already on the southern side of the city, with several options for an evening outing or a relaxed dinner.

Sometimes the best travel experience is simply having less time stuck in traffic.

If you have a full day, explore Bengaluru beyond the south

Lalbagh Botanical Garden

If you’re staying for a few days, it makes sense to venture further into Bengaluru as well.

Lalbagh Botanical Garden is one of the city’s classic destinations and is particularly enjoyable for people who appreciate gardens, plants and historic landscapes.

The famous glasshouse is one of its most recognisable features, while the garden itself provides plenty of space to simply walk around and slow down.

Unlike some tourist attractions that require you to keep moving from one point to another, Lalbagh rewards a slower visit.

See one of Bengaluru’s oldest living landmarks

The Big Banyan Tree

https://images.openai.com/static-rsc-4/tQQYGgu-T8BVwYfQ9EBbhjNzGaqvOQITkg03goK1i8_Lv85sTeV9aNieMvymyQRbd1GfrsS0RpA2pfKarKUK8b0N3Mrxq4NALEEVbnyizrHnDJN_ezj69Mq88632kwjGMbcdpN2FDBL6i4EkK4v8V6SAncWyw9YJK9unaX84Ny_zdIVZkQXz7GlI_ItAGkj0?purpose=fullsize

For something a little different, consider visiting Dodda Alada Mara, better known as the Big Banyan Tree.

Located at Ramohalli, the enormous banyan tree is one of Bengaluru’s unusual natural landmarks.

It isn’t the kind of place you visit simply to tick off another tourist attraction.

Instead, it’s interesting because of the sheer scale and age of the tree—and because it offers a glimpse of the natural landscape that existed long before modern Bengaluru grew around it.

A simple way to spend a day

If you have only one free day around South Bengaluru, you don’t need to make an ambitious plan.

A relaxed itinerary could look something like this:

Morning

Start early and head towards Bannerghatta Biological Park.

Late morning / afternoon

Spend a few hours exploring the park and its wildlife attractions.

Evening

Return towards the Jigani–Bommasandra side and look for a quieter place to unwind.

Night

Have dinner and get some proper rest instead of trying to squeeze another attraction into the day.

If you’re staying for longer, keep another day for exploring Bengaluru itself.

The idea isn’t to see everything.

It’s to enjoy the places you actually visit.

Staying around Yarandahalli

If your plans involve Yarandahalli, Bommasandra, Jigani, Electronic City or the surrounding industrial areas, staying nearby can make your trip considerably easier.

Kavins Inn is located at RK Township, Phase II, Yarandahalli, on Bommasandra–Jigani Link Road, making it a convenient option for guests who want to stay on this side of Bengaluru.

The property offers AC and non-AC rooms, giving guests the flexibility to choose according to their needs and budget.

Whether you’re visiting for work, spending time with family or simply passing through South Bengaluru, having a comfortable place to return to at the end of the day makes the experience that much better.

South Bengaluru is worth taking slowly

Bengaluru is a city that is easy to experience through its famous landmarks.

But there is another Bengaluru that you notice when you slow down—the lakes in its neighbourhoods, the greenery around its outskirts, the roads connecting one locality to another and the unexpected pockets of nature that survive alongside a rapidly growing city.

The Bommasandra–Jigani side of Bengaluru is part of that story.

So if you’re staying around Yarandahalli, Bommasandra or Jigani, don’t think of your stay only as a convenient place between two destinations.

Give yourself a little time to explore what’s around you.

You might be surprised by what you find.

Planning a stay around South Bengaluru? Kavins Inn welcomes you to Yarandahalli.
